Circle of Service: From Circulation to Access Services- Navigating the 21st century user experience

Abstract

Athens State University was founded in 1822 and is the oldest continuously operating institution of higher learning in Alabama. Uniquely, we are a two year, upper division university that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees online, face to face, and hybrid courses., In our poster presentation, we will discuss more than 20 years of change in our circulation desk service model. Since 1996, our circulation service desk at times has been managed by faculty, staff, or a combination of the two. In addition to management changes, the scope of work for the student workers has evolved from being project to customer service based. Consequently, the scope of work for the circulation supervisor has been modified and restyled to meet changing demands. As the needs of our patrons have changed, we have reworked our service model, which is proving to be a continuous effort in today's information landscape.,
