Security as a Service: Merging Teams to Provide an Enhanced Experience

Abstract

The Robert W. Woodruff Library at Emory University is planning to redesign its entrance to provide a more welcoming experience for its patrons. This process will feature bringing members of the current Security Team into Access Services, and will include new service program development. The Security Team staffs the current Entrance Desk while Access Services staffs other library service points that provide circulation, reference and directional assistance. , , This presentation will explore the staffing, training and physical changes needed to transition to a new entrance experience service model at the Woodruff Library. The presenters will explore the change management process, including team development and cross-training in new functional areas. The presentation will also include a literature review of other libraries' experiences, concerns, and considerations regarding services, staffing, and spaces. With the project in the first year of implementation, the presenters will discuss future plans as well as the present environment. ,
