Terabytes of statistical data - How did we use it?
Dennis Smith, Nancy Brady
Abstract
Our library has for years scratched the surface of data analysis using gate counts to validate assumptions of peak usage times for both space and technology. With better tools and more user friendly assessment techniques, we have evolved to create a deeper visualization of where we impact the university community. Understanding the data has created opportunities for improvement in decision making and service needs prediction which wasn't obvious a year ago. Analyzing the data has allowed us to illuminating the desk interactions to advise training and redirect efforts for customer service, change desk staffing based on desk activity and discover preferred use of space to create more usable space. Using the data dashboard, understand patterns of activity to develop library hours and desk staffing for a more tailored and efficient work agenda. These new lenses have redefined how we see our influence and contributions.
