Using a National Library of Medicine Traveling Exhibit to Creatively Market the Library and Engage the Library Community
Gina Addona
Abstract
To contribute to the wellness and intellectual life on campus, the Library booked the National Library of Medicine Harry Potter's World exhibit. Campus libraries created 14 events/exhibits to compliment the display panels. An online guide mirrored the physical displays and included video of the lectures. The libraries collaborated with student groups, student affairs, facilities, public safety, faculty, and public affairs to help organize, fund, facilitate, and promote the programs. Marketing efforts were all thematic and included a marauder's map (program flier), posters, table tents for the cafeteria, digital display slides, announcements via the student intranet, advertisements in the library newsletters, and targeted departmental advertising. The library directors appreciated database advertisement opportunities and the ability to redirect students to library resources for further information. This was a worthwhile project that added to the university community.
