Rodger Bishop, Fredda Owens, Suzanne Rook Schiff
Abstract
Today's academic library collections are no longer limited to books and media items; our circulating collections are filled with unique items such as SLR cameras, gaming consoles, VR headsets, tablets, drones, puppets, and yes, even bones. Meeting the curriculum and research needs of today's student requires creativity, problem solving, and technology expertise in our Access Services employees. , , This poster session will describe the challenges and processes used to curate unique circulating collections: purchasing considerations; shelving and packaging items in a way that maximizes space and protects materials; determining loan periods, reservation techniques, and how to get stuff returned on time; and cleaning and maintaining these high use and delicate pieces. Sample materials, photographs, and results of our efforts will be shared and a QR code will link to a website with project details and helpful tips.,
