Building a Shared Vision

Abstract
The task-oriented nature of Access Services requires acute attention to detail and a focus on the present. Long-term departmental planning aligned with library and institutional strategic plans provides staff in Access an opportunity to see how their daily work fits into the big picture of the university, and the foresight to plan and implement changes to better meet the needs of the campus community. The presenters will walk attendees through a two-year long-term planning cycle they led their department through, highlight the alignment of goals with institutional strategic planning, and share examples of changes to workflows and policies that have positively impacted the Access staff as well as patrons. The presenters will also overview implementing changes to the long-term plan mid-cycle to accommodate for things such as global pandemics and staff turnover.
