Abstract

Academic libraries face increasing challenges as faculty and students continue to demonstrate a desire for streaming video, particularly in the age of COVID online learning and the increase of distance learning programs. The authors wish to think of this poster as a conversation starter, using our institution's examples as a jumping-off point for other libraries to explore and discuss similar issues they have experienced in regards to streaming video. As DVD sales decline and streaming video grows in popularity, academic libraries are confronted with increasing issues in acquiring and budgeting for these materials, administering and maintaining multiple platforms and licenses, and managing student and faculty expectations of their libraries' ability to provide the instant access they have grown accustomed to. Academic librarians must address issues of copyright, accessibility, and advocate for more autonomy in how they can access and store video content or even share streaming video content between libraries.
