Abstract
We've developed an interactive training tool called Scavengedy which effectively engages student via gamification. Scavengedy is a unique approach to training that promotes camaraderie with your student assistants while becoming familiar with library policies, Library of Congress Classification (LCC), music, pop culture, and trivia. It is a clue based game comprised of various categories that give one or two word clues that students have to solve. Here are two examples: (1) the category is TV and the clue is Two bottles of Detergent -- the answer is Cheers & (2) the category is LCC and the clue is Pig Latin --the answer is Secret languages - PM9001-9021. Scavengedy can be viewed on both a desktop and mobile device and can be played anywhere at any time. This serves as an effective and nonconventional way of training your student workers while promoting information literacy through serendipitous discovery and intrinsic motivation.
