Abstract

Libraries around the country have two things in common; struggling to keep pace with ever changing technology and constantly trying to provide services patron's want with limited resources. Mobile internet connected devices are a major presence in our society and tremendous growth is predicted in the next five years. QR or quick response codes are an excellent tool for libraries as they provide a tech savvy way of interacting with patrons with little or no cost. QR Codes provide a link to an electronic resource in the real world essentially bridging the gap between a library's physical and electronic space., , Key Discussion Points:, , 1. A library's website is an essential portal containing information and resources but how do patrons that are in the library interact with the website?, , 2. How can we modify the library's physical and electronic space to provide a more seamless experience for our patrons?, , 3. How can we turn areas of customer service deficiency into opportunities through the use of QR Codes? , , In this session I will facilitate a discussion of the vast potential that QR Codes posses and how libraries can utilize them effectively. Georgia State University has begun to implement QR Codes within the last year. I will share what I have learned from this exploration and I would love to hear how other libraries are using this fascinating tool. , , ,
