Abstract

The invention of e-reader technologies such as Amazon's Kindle and Barnes and Noble's Nook along with the tablet style computer and the various i-phone types of mobile devices have enabled us to read almost anything anywhere. The designers of this technology have sought to mimic the look, feel, and comfort of reading a book, shifting the emphasis of online reading from brief articles to reading entire books., , How can libraries use these technologies to increase patron access and what kinds of materials are deliverable to e-readers? How do we expand our services to assist patrons seeking e-books, helping to locate and access them? Our patrons seek e-books in all languages and scripts which is similar to the demand for print materials. This paper will explore how libraries and librarians can best meet this newest demand while retooling ourselves and our services for the challenge.
