Abstract

Budgets for collection development and staff time required for processing items are major investments for any library. Conducting an inventory is a simple and cost-effective method of maximizing these investments while boosting the public perception of the library., The Albert M. Greenfield Library is the main library serving The University of the Arts with a collection dating back to the university's founding in 1876. A recent inventory of the library has increased user satisfaction and improved the library's image. An accurate catalog and ordered stacks improve service quality by allowing the patron to independently find resources on the shelves, which streamlines staff workflow. In addition, conducting an inventory proves a level of accountability and responsibility that is evident to the patrons and the library's stakeholders. This session will describe how to complete an inventory using minimal equipment and training and with little disruption to the daily operation of the library.
